An agricultural Engineer turned into Climate Advocate and Environmental Activist. My passion to agriculture begun since when I was a kid. Back in the days I was so in love with formular one and I had a lot of formular one toys. When I turned 7 years my dad took me to my grandpa for holiday. My grandpa was a sunflower and corn farmer, he had a friend that owes an old Massey Ferguson tractor, from there I became so in love with that tractor. I loved to see how it looks and the sound that its make when tilling the soil. When we get back to town with my dad, I was telling him like one day I will owe a tractor and also I will start a competition for tractor races as what they do with formular one. My love for tractor was growing up days and days and I started learning new things about tractors like why the tractor has small front tires and big rear tires, why they have counter weight and also why they don’t run to fast like our normal cars. It was my wish to study agriculture as a subject in my secondary school but it didn’t work because we were living in big cities where teaching agriculture was impractical. But I didn’t give up yet, in my university studies I chose to do Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering and Mechanization and from there I had a huge opportunity of studying farm machineries in details and my love for agriculture became matured. After completing my bachelor, I joined one of the fast growing sugar cane company as an Agricultural Engineer, I served there for 3 years and became a well Professional Engineer. Being employed has never been my dream, but I had no choice to stand on my own since I had zero experience.
Early 2023 while I was still employed, me and my two friends we organized ourselves and rent 30 acres of rice farm. We took a loan of a Power Tiller that helped us with farm works, in the midst of February we were done with planting and wait for the rain to boost the growth of our crops. Our waiting became like forever, we didn’t see the rain coming. It was a real heartbreaking, seeing our little green crops turned into khaki and witnessed them dying with our eyes. From there, I became to realize that Climate Change is a real thing, it doesn’t care how much you invested in the farm and it can make you into endless tears within a second.
In July 2023, I had an opportunity to go to the United States for Agricultural training. It was an awesome experience for me to learn different agricultural skills. American farmers are so much invested in machineries, modern farming skills and on top of that they are well informed about weather forecast. I have seen how their farming is aligned with weather forecast that means every farmer get to know when the spring will start so they could plan a land preparation for spring seeding, planning for irrigation scheduling during the summer and also planning for fall/autumn harvest before it get too cold to kill the crops.
Based in my farming experience in Tanzania and in the United States, I have learned a lesson that, in agriculture it does not matter how big you do equipped with machineries and skills, Climate Change can beat you up and a table might turn in a fraction second. Most of our fellow farmers in America and Europe they are succeeded in farming because they are well informed with Climate Change and they are still fighting against it. But here in Tanzania, most of our farmers they know nothing about climate change, they only used to say ‘Msimu huu mvua zimechelewa au zimewahi sana’ in Swahili which means the rain has came too early or too late but they do not know the reason behind it.
Therefore, I just committed myself to dedicate my time and energy to help farmers in Tanzania that they get to know about Climate Change and how to fight against it because it is among the biggest threat in farming. It is my wish to see poverty is taking a permanent flight from our farmers especially smallholder farmers.
We have founded Green Connect Africa with the belief that our communities hold the power to shape a more sustainable future. It is our commitment to connect people, nature and innovation in a way that restore our environment and strengthen Climate-resilient agriculture. Every project we undertake is guided by the conviction that small actions when rooted in knowledge, collaboration and purpose can transform entire communities. My vision is to see farmers are empowered, ecosystem restored and future generation inherit a continent where agriculture and nature thrive together. Green Connect Africa is more than an organization, it is a movement of hope, responsibility and shared progress for the Africa we want tomorrow.
